Swimming in Lake Soier

In the wider area of Oberammergau you will find numerous swimming lakes, surrounded by the magnificent natural setting of the Ammergau Alps. The unique alpine landscape is an impressive backdrop for every swimming session. Picture-perfect Lake Soier is in Pfaffenwinkel, just a short bike ride from Oberammergau. This small lake offers ideal relaxation not only for swimmers but also for fishers. It is also the perfect starting point for numerous hiking tours through the alpine foothills.

On the south side of the lake there is a swimming area with kiosk, large grassy sunbathing area and boat hire. Or enjoy learning about local flora and fauna along the 2.5 km nature trail that runs around the lake.

The selection of hiking trails in the Oberammergau area is almost beyond belief; the huge variety will make any hiking enthusiast’s heart start to race. There is something for everyone – from easy family hikes to difficult via ferrata (fixed rope) climbing routes for pros. We are happy to give you personal advice about which tours will be most enjoyable and best suited to you.

Natural climbing facilities around Oberammergau offer fun for beginners and pros alike. The rock here is rough and easy to grip. Most rock faces are fitted with bolts, but taking a few small nuts with you won’t hurt. The Ammergau Alps are a prime destination for alpine climbing alone.
